This is my first genius hour post and i look forward to sharing my lyrical progress with you all.
My genius hour question involves creating a poetry/rap scrapbook. With this scrapbook i want to include a variety of poem styles covering topics that range from serious to humorous. In addition to the written component, my goal is to make the scrapbook look artsy by including various pictures and illustrations. My main motivation behind this project is to become a better writer and to expand my creative potential beyond little rhymes or puns. I have always made the content of my rhymes lean more on the comical side. I have always ben afraid or unwilling to tackle more serious or persona topics. My main goal after completing this scrapbook is to have the willingness to write about stuff that truly matters and to truly bare who I am and how i feel on the page. The progress I have made so far involves finding a scrapbook and deciding the types of poems i want to incorporate in my scrapbook. I painted the cover of my scrapbook white so that the illustrations and pictures i put on the front will stand out. I have developed a list of the types of poems i want to include in the scrapbook.

The classroom activity from our first two lessons that I would incorporate in my class is honestly the genius hour project. I feel like this project is productive on multiple levels. It gets students to develop their creativity and encourages them to be passionate and connected with what they are doing in the classroom. Too often education fails to make students want to learn. If I had an activity like this in my experiences as a student I would have loved learning more as a kid than I did. Oe way i could adapt this project is to make it subject specific. My teachable is history so I could have my students genius hour focus creating a device that would solve a historical problem or issue. The planning or management considerations I might have to make is giving students more or less time to complete the project depending on the circumstances. I would also have to consider the resources students have access to and the time in class that I would provide for students to complete their genius hour.
This project is far from complete and i hoping by next week i have much more progress. I am looking forward to begin writing my poems and hope they all have a meaning and feel that connects with the reader and myself as the writer.
