Genius Hour Post 5

My Genius Hour is coming along really nicely. To finally see what is almost a finished product is really cool. I have put a lot of time into it so it is rewarding to see it all come together. I have all the poems done but I may choose to add another couple in order to fill out another page or so. This week my goal was to start the illustration process. I focused my attention specifically on the cover page. I have not finished colouring the cover page but the drawings that will go on it are done. I drew three images that I am representing on the cover page. The first is a cartoon image of a giraffe smiling. I chose this image because I have a poem in my scrapbook about giraffes and they are one of my favourite animals. The second image I chose is a cartoon head of C3P0. The reason I chose this image is because I have a poem about Star Wars in my scrapbook and also for sentimental reasons. Not only is Star Wars my favourite movie of all time but C3P0 is my favourite character from the mo...

Over this past week I have made some big steps in finishing my genius hour project. I am pretty much done the poetry part of my scrapbook. I added a few more poems covering styles such as free verse which was the most fun. Free Verse has no set structure or rule so I could write about any topic and let my creative rain run free. Writing all these poems was a healthy challenge for me. It allowed me to start developing some ideas for future poems  while also providing me with some new additions to my body of work. The exciting part was I finally put all my poems in my scrapbook. I cut out all the poems and attached them to the pages. Below I have a few pictures of my poetry pages in my scrapbook. Acrostic Poems - Scrapbook Haiku Poems - Scrapbook Ode Poems - Scrapbook All I have left to do is complete the artistic portion of my scrapbook. By next week I want to have the cover done with a few illustrations and some pictures. The kind of images I want to put on the cover ...

The Genius Hour project has continued to progress quite nicely for me. I am continuing to write more poems and have a nice collection of them built up so far. I have about 22 poems written so far ranging in length, type and content. This project has helped to reinvigorate my creative mind and get me back into a zone I haven't explored in a while. I have written in five different poetry styles so far. These styles include Acrostic, Haiku, Cinquain, Ode and Limericks. These types range in both their structure and the length of each poem. Odes tend to be a little longer in length but Cinquains and Limericks are on the shorter side. I have learned about so many different forms of poetry I have not had experience with prior. In regard to the illustration side of my scrapbook i plan on completing that part last after I finish the poems. I have brainstormed some ideas for what I want to include on the cover of my scrapbook. I want to include pictures of famous poets, some cool art and may...

So far the work on my scrapbook has been really positive. This past week I focused on beginning the meat of the project. My main goal was to being the writing process and strategies developing a few of the poems that I will be including in my scrapbook. Last week i had created a list of the different poetry styles I wanted to focus on and this week I begin putting that into action. My strategy is to begin with the shorter poems first and slowly build to the more lengthier poems. So far I have written acrostic and haiku poems. The content of my poems thus far have not followed any particular theme. I have just written about whatever topic comes to mind. The topics I have explored cover a range from being personal poems to leaning toward the fun and whimsical side. My moms have always been more on the fun side so I have been making a conscious effort to wrote about stuff that is meaningful and relevant to my experiences. This will show in a couple of the poems I have written so far whe...
